The miscellaneous records sub-group contains small collections regularly outside of the Merton Center's collection focus. It currently contains two collections related to Mother Teresa of Calcutta (Saint Teresa of Calcutta), one of which is related to Bellarmine College (now Bellarmine University).

This Sub-Section includes Merton's handwritten personal diaries and journals, as well as his reading notebooks or working notebooks. His journals have been published in their entirety. Small sections of the notebooks have been quoted in various works, but the notebooks have not on the whole been published. The notebooks range in date from 1946-1968.

Collections in this record group are related to Thomas Merton, Merton studies, or the Merton Legacy Trust (his literary trust). Some were managed by Merton's friends, family, collectors of his works, biographers, or those in correspondence with Merton.

This Records Group contains clothing worn by Merton, his personal effects, and publications dedicated to Merton. There are miscellaneous printed materials related to Merton including the publications of the International Thomas Merton Society (ITMS): the Merton Seasonal, the Merton Annual, and the ITMS Newsletter. There are files related to past ITMS conferences and publications from other Merton-related societies outside of the United States.

This Record Group contains published works and manuscripts (including proofs and galleys) of books and pamphlets by and about Merton. Additionally, there are reviews of books by and about Merton, royalties statements and censors reports for Merton's books, and masters theses and doctoral dissertations about Merton and his writings.

This record group includes artwork, photographs, musical recordings, and scripts for plays by Merton or based on or inspired by his writings.

This Records Subgroup points to information datasets that index references in Merton's books, conference speakers, etc. It is not a representation of a physical collection, but may point to references within other collections in the archives. For example, the calendar database is a finding aid to discover pieces of correspondence by date found in Record Group 1.

This Record Group contains Merton's correspondence. The bulk years of the collection are between 1963 and his death in 1968 with some earlier correspondence or copies of correspondence. There are an estimated ten thousand pieces of correspondence. Included are both letters to and from Merton. In addition, there are letters that are related to Merton or the Merton Center, but not to or from Merton. Subjects of this collection vary and include personal correspondence, conscience matter and other spiritual direction, dialogue with social activist groups, and correspondence with publishers. Most materials are unpublished at present. This Record Group contains published works and manuscripts of articles, essays, and poems by and about Merton. There are also newspaper clippings about Merton, signed essays and smaller works, periodicals used by Merton, and compilations of Merton's essays by topic and by date.
