Sem títuloThis Sub-Section primarily includes audio recordings on reel-to-reel tapes of speeches and lectures of Thomas Merton. Most speeches were given in his role as novice master while many recordings from 1965 through 1968 were either conferences given to the Gethsemani community, conferences given to other groups (mostly monks and nuns), or recordings made by Merton in his hermitage for personal use. Published recordings in this section are cataloged. The reel-to-reel recordings have been digitally remastered as compact disk and as digital files.
Sem títuloThis Records Sub-Group includes poems in manuscript and published forms. Published copies include either original publications wherein Merton's published poems appeared or photocopies from such publications. For most users, the easiest way to find published poems is to look in the book of Merton's Collected Poems, which includes all published poems except those found in Eighteen Poems, which were published posthumously.
This Sub-Section includes different bound collections of Merton's essays. The first (4iia) is a 15 volume collection of photocopies and typescripts of published essay and articles by Merton, arranged chronologically, and compiled and bound by Rev. Thomas J. Nelson, C.M. The second (4iib) is a 24 volume set of bound copies of some of Merton's essays, grouped by subject, and compiled at the Abbey of Gethsemani.
The older newspaper clippings (through roughly early 2000s) about Thomas Merton are stored in boxes in the archive. Newer clippings are either on display in oversize flip files or filed in Records Sub-Group 4iv (D.4a) under the author of the piece.

Sem títuloThis records subgroup includes video recordings about Merton, quoting or mentioning Merton, about Gethsemani Abbey, and concerning other topics related to Merton. Most are VHS tapes or DVD disks, but there is a small number of broadcast videotape media. For more on the PBS documentary, see Sub-Section H.4. Some of the published works in this section are cataloged in Bellarmine University's library catalog. A growing number of video recordings are digital videos hosted on YouTube or hosted as a video file in the Omeka digital collections.

This records series contains drawings by Thomas Merton: #0800 through #0833.
This records series contains video recordings about Thomas Merton. Most are lectures of speakers on Thomas Merton, filmed artistic or dramatic performances related to Merton, or films of related subjects like the Abbey of Gethsemani or themes from Merton’s writing or travels.
This record subgroup includes artwork created by Merton. The Merton Center holds over nine hundred of Merton's drawings. Most of his drawings and calligraphies are in black ink on paper (the quality of the paper varies from art media to scraps of notebook paper). Early items in this collection tend to be more concrete images of religious motifs, such as Christ or the Virgin Mary. His later art becomes increasingly abstract, some of which Merton refers to as "graffiti."
