    History

Adrian Cunningham died at age 69 in March 2012. He spent the greatest part of his professional career at the University of Lancaster, helping to found the Department of Religious Studies in 1967. Merton writes to him in London. At the time, he was a student at Cambridge. He was involved in Catholic attempts to promote non-violence and to resist nuclear arms proliferation. He later was a co-founder the controversial publication «Slant», which attempted to reconcile Marxism and Catholic thought.
